Electric Jeep Wrangler Magneto Concept Debuts As Part Of Easter Safari Lineup
The Jeep brand has unveiled an electric conversion of the Wrangler Rubicon SUV, which retains the original mechanical all-wheel drive system and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Jeep has rolled out four new concepts that will be taking their talents to the trails. The concepts consist of a restomodded classic like the Jeepster Beach, modern overlanding options like the Wrangler Orange Peelz and Gladiator Red Bare, and for the first time, a fully electric Jeep dubbed the Magneto.
The Magneto concept is the most straightforward electric conversion imaginable, they took a regular Wrangler Rubicon, threw out the 3.6-liter gasoline V6 replaced it with an electric motor and placed the battery and other electrical components where there was a place for them.
The output characteristics of the electric motor are similar to those of the V6, maximum output of 290 horsepower, and 370 Newton-meter of torque. The maximum speed is 6000 RPM so there is no way without a gearbox. The battery with a capacity of 70 kilowatt-hour consists of four blocks, one is located under the hood above the engine, one in the trunks, and two in the frame on the sides of the crankshaft. The power reserve on a single charge is about 350 kilometers.
The Wrangler Magneto accelerates to 96 kilometer per hour in 6.8 seconds. Other features of the concept include a two inch lifted suspension, 35-inch toothy tires, a powerful new heater in the cabin designed specifically for an electric car and original LED lighting technology. Magneto electrical components will have to be built into the standard frame and body. Jeep introduced the plug in hybrid Wrangler 4xe, which also retains the mechanical all-wheel drive system, two electric motors are implanted directly into the power unit and the battery is located under the rear seat.
Electric cars with a manual gearbox are not such a gimmick, in 2019, Ford presented a one off electric Mustang Lithium with a 6 speed manual gearbox at the SEMA tuning show.
