2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Compact Truck

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Compact Truck official images and date of premiere.

The Hyundai pickup truck unveiled the Santa Cruz concept to signal its intentions towards developing a small pickup for North America, the appearance of such a model in the brands range was officially announced six years later, and only now images of the production version have been published. The cargo truck retained the name of the harbinger, and only this name makes it related to that prototype. So, before it was believed that the pickup would be built on the basis of Hyundai Santa Fe. The production model is a couple of weeks away from its big debut. For now, these surprisingly revealing teaser images will have to suffice.

The compact truck appears to be heavily related to the latest Tucson in terms of design, at least as far as the front fascia and front doors are concerned. As seen on the compact crossover, some of the light modules are part of the intricate grille, helping the Santa Cruz stand out. The pickup got a two story head optics, with running lights integrated into the front grille, the main headlights are located below. The Santa Cruz has similar side stamping. But at the same time, the grille has a different pattern, the front bumper was replaced, and the pickup also received original taillights.

Hyundai is not going in depth with the technical specifications for the time being, but it vows to shatter both SUV and truck segments, creating an entirely new vehicle category. It is stated that the pickup was developed by the North American division of Hyundai, this region will become the main, if not the only, market for the new product, production will be established in the United States at a plant in Alabama, where Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata and Elantra are also produced. Now it turns out that a new category has even been invented for Santa Cruz, the Sport Adventure Vehicle. In other words, the truck should not be considered as a workhorse.

Powerful and efficient powertrain options are being promised, Probably, in the US, the pickup will be offered with the same engine as Tucson. We are talking about the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter which produces 190 horsepower on the crossover, it is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. For Santa Cruz, of course, all-wheel drive is declared, but it is possible that the base truck will be front-wheel drive.

The interior of Santa Cruz has not yet been exposed, however, it is also, most likely, decorated based on the Hyundai Tucson, that is, we are waiting for a virtual tidy and visually combined touchscreen of multimedia systems and a climate control unit.

Hyundai pickup truck has certainly been a long time coming, and its impending debut goes to show how far the brand has evolved in the last couple of decades.

The Santa Cruz pickup will premiere in the United States on April 15, and production is scheduled to begin in the summer.
